Raising Money for local Children's Charities

Power Game Raises Charity Cash - 15/10/11

BORO’S heroes of ’86 are calling on supporters to back two causes close to the club’s heart by purchasing a brand new recording of the famous Power Game run-out music.

Teesside music legends and dedicated Boro fans, The Wildcats of Kilkenny, have specially re-recorded The Power Game, with profits from the venture to be divided between another Boro star of the 1986 era, Gary Parkinson, and the Finlay Cooper Fund.
Parky suffered a serious stroke last year and needs constant care, while the second charity raises money for children's causes throughout Teesside in memory of former Boro star Colin Cooper's son.

The DVD has been re-launched ahead of Boro’s big game this Saturday against another of Cooper’s former clubs, Millwall.

The Boro legend, who has just rejoined the club for a third spell, this time as youth coach, was joined by his fellow heroes of 1986, Tony Mowbray, Stephen Pears and Gary Gill.
And they were joined by Wildcats frontman Mike McGrother, who is Boro’s matchday PA announcer.

Songs have also been donated by Stockton's Young Rebel Set and Thornaby's Cattle and Cane for inclusion on the disc.

Cooper, who set up the fund with his wife Julie after they lost Finlay in a choking accident, said: “This is a fabulous gesture by the Wildcats and all those who have supported the idea. It’s a wonderful idea to re-record a tune that every fan associates with the Boro.
“We hope that Boro supporters will support two cracking local causes by purchasing a CD. It will help us make a real difference for children’s charities, while it goes without saying that Parky needs all the help people can give him.”

Mike said: "Anyone who knows the Wildcats will know we have a very special affinity to Middlesbrough FC and these seemed to be really worthy causes to help out. Both charities are completely committed to helping Teesside's own and that makes them perfect to work with. It’s a fantastic offering of three songs for two great causes."

Production has been sponsored by local businesses, meaning that every penny can go straight to the two causes.

The disc - '3-4-2' - costs £5, with net proceeds split 50-50 between the Finlay Cooper Fund and the Gary Parkinson Trust Fund.
